UMM volleyball finishes second in conference

UMM entered the tournament in second place finishing regular season conference play with a 6-2 record.

The first match of the tournament featured NCC agaisnt Paul Smith of New York, NCC won that match in 5 games.  The second match pitted NCC against the first place team NHTI.  NHTI won that match in 3 games. The third match was the third place team Unity College vs. second place UMM. These two teams had played each other 3 times in regular season play with UMM coming out on top all three times.

Umm won the first two sets of the match, 25-21 and 25-17.  Unity would not go down without a fight, they took an early lead in the third set and held on.  UMM tried to take the game away catching up at the end, but couldn't turn the game around soon enough.  Unity won the set 26-24.  Unity started the fourth game again with a lead, UMM again tried to fight their way back  into the lead but come up short, losing 25-22.  This tied the match up 2-2 and forced a fifth game.  UMM controlled the fifth set from start to finish and won the set 15-8, putting them into the championship match against NHTI.

NHTI is the only conference team to have beaten UMM in regular season play and UMM had hoped to redeem themselves and win the conference title.

UMM come out charged and ready to play but NHTI found the holes that UMM left open and controlled the tempo of the match. UMM was forced to play defense most of the match. The Clippers played hard but could not take control of the match losing in three sets, 25-19,25-16, and 25-18.

Congrats to UMM for their fine season.  Two UMM players got recognized at the tournament for thier proformance during the season and at the tournament.  Heather Leonard was voted by the coaches to the YSCC allstar team and Elisa Boyd was voted best offensive player of the tournament.  Congratulations to both for their accomplishments!
