Machias, ME- The University of Maine at Machias Women's Basketball team open the season with an impressive 59-34 win over the Unity College Rams on Saturday afternoon. The game was played in front of an anxious crowd at the Reynolds Center on the Machias campus. This was the first game of the season and it starts the Lady Clippers with a 1-0 record in conference play.
Venessa Paterson, (SO), led the Clippers with 18 points 8 rebounds in 27 minutes of play. Freshman C, Caroline Proctor had an amazing 15 points 14 rebounds for her opening day double double. Caroline was a great force down low going 7-19 from the field. Sophomore guard, Kirsti Wright chipped in with 10 rebounds herself. Sierra Marchacos of Unity had a great game providing a complete 40 minutes of play with 8 points 10 rebounds. Melinda Gray led all Unity scorers with 10 points. Machias Coach Rick Lupo stated, "I'm very excited about this team's first victory and it feels nice to get the full squad back. We will continue to work on getting stronger as a team."
