(South Portland, ME) The Clippers men's soccer team lost to Southern Maine CC today 2-1. Despite outshooting the Seawolves 23-10, the Clippers came up short on the scoreboard. In the first half, The Clippers had several good chances to score but were unable to find the back of the net. The game remained scoreless until a miscommunication between GK Luis Herrera and a defender allowed SMCC forward Blaise Whitney to push the ball past him and score into an empty net. Seven minutes later, the referee decided to award the seawolves a penalty kick and Blaise Whitney scored his second goal of the game.
The Clippers fought to come back and cut the score in half when freshman Tyler Pelletier headed the ball into the back of the net. But the Clippers were unable to come up with the equalizer and lost their first conference match of the year. They travel to Vermont to play College of St. Joseph's tomorrow.
