Machias, ME – The University of Maine at Machias men's basketball team open the season with an impressive 98-70 win over the Unity College Rams. The game was played in front of a good crowd in the Reynolds Center on the Machias campus. The win not only was the season opener for the Clippers but was also the first YSCC game of the year.
The Clippers saw four players score double figures. Floyd Higgins led the way with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Brian Getchell and Elias Gutierrez both netted 17 and Aaron Van Buren scored 12. AC Ford was impressive distributing the ball tallying 9 assists. The Clippers defense held the Rams to 39% from the field and forced them into 18 turnovers. The Clipper offense was able to shoot 55% from the field while recording 20 total assists. The Rams were led by Eddie Kopacz with 24 points, Jacob Scoville 19 and Jared Straight 14.
Machias Coach Brac Brady remarked, "I'm excited to see what this team can accomplish this season, it was a good start but there are many areas we can improve. The team has set some goals that will take a total commitment from all of them to reach. I'm happy with the start."
The Clippers return to action on Wednesday, November 6th when they travel to Husson College for a non-conference game.
